Match Your Countertops, Cabinets and Floors in 3 Easy Steps
The key to creating a kitchen that can keep up with ever-changing trends is a simple design. When working with a room that gets so much daily use, like your kitchen, you may want or need to change your accents and decorations seasonally, or when the mood strikes you. Selecting simple countertops, cabinets and floors will save you both time and money, while also providing added flexibility to incorporate your personal style.
Step 1. Choose your color palette
Before sitting down with a consultant and looking at samples, take some time to determine what overall color scheme you want for your new kitchen. Our design experts recommend keeping it simple by selecting one main color and two, complementary accent colors. Step 2. Select your countertop
Next, select a your kitchen cabinet style along with a coordinating countertop material that works for your lifestyle, as well as your personal style. Depending on the material you choose for your countertop, there may be natural color variations and/or patterns, which means it will be much easier to match your cabinets and floors to the countertops, rather than the other way around. Our design experts recommend keeping material samples handy to help you coordinate your cabinets and countertop with other products like flooring, backsplashes and accessories.
Step 3. Compliment with accessories and accents
Speaking of accessories, choosing accents for your kitchen design should be your last step. Bold colors work well for walls, decorative pieces and smaller kitchen appliances. Metallic finishes can be used to highlight and brighten your space, especially if your countertop already has hints of gold or silver. In our example, the matte Desert Gray subway tile backsplash compliments the wall color while subtly accentuating the flecks of electric blue and shimmering gray in the countertop. Satin nickel door knobs and cup pulls complete this contemporary look by adding smooth, clean lines and a touch of farmhouse charm.
